What is HCG?

HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is a hormone associated with pregnancy. HCG hormone is produced by the placenta after implantation in order to nourish the egg attached to the uterine wall. The presence of HCG is detected in some pregnancy tests (HCG pregnancy strip tests).

What is the HCG Diet?

The claim behind the HCG Diet is that the natural HCG hormone plays a role in metabolism.  Namely, it ‘resets’ the metabolism so that the body burns fat more quickly whilst simultaneously controlling the appetite so that person can consume a low amount of calories whilst not feeling the expected level of hunger and food craving.  The HCG Diet is therefore a low calorie diet supplemented by HCG hormone.

Who invented the HCG Diet?

The HCG diet was invented way back in the 1950’s and is only now once again attracting the attention of the weight loss community.  The weight loss benefits of the hormone HCG were first publicized by the British endocrinologist Dr. ATW Simeons.
